Funding mechanism

The BIAS project is being supported by the Basic Technology Research Programme of the Research Councils UK. This programme aims to develop a generic technology base that can be adapted to a diverse range of scientific research problems. It enables multidisciplinary teams, each expert in their own fields, to develop new technology from an increased understanding of the basic science.

As stated by Professor Sir Keith O'Nions FRS, Director General of Research Councils.

"The Basic Technology Research Programme continues to make strategic investments to develop truly innovative cutting edge technology that offers the prospect of making significant impact in the way that scientific advances will be made in the future. The research supported by this programme is of very high quality. Innovative approaches are needed to address the many technical challenges. Success will undoubtedly bring the opportunity of changing the landscape of research knowledge, and provide opportunities for commercial exploitation."
